SPELLERS ~ Hope for the Autistic

Since 1989, autism has been on the rise. While there are some autistic children who can function, others are non-communicative; that is, they cannot speak. Many teachers assumed that these individuals were learning disabled and unable to communicate. “SPELLERS”  was produced to demonstrate to the world that these children can communicate via the SPELLERS METHOD.  In fact, many of these children are incredibly bright, although locked in a sensory nightmare.

Watch this movie, share widely, and let the trumpet blast. These children are able and bright and need us to set them free! Special Educators can go to S2C (Spelling to Communicate) to learn more about the method presented in the movie.

Commentary on the movie is here in this video:

A note from Mrs. Calabrese:

I have been enthusiastic about THE WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING METHOD, especially for writing. This method uses gross motor skills to encode difficult-to-memorize facts. Regular Education teachers educate children who are not as challenged as the autistic; these children still struggle with learning, however. Research this method which mirrors with the “SPELLERS” method.

This link takes you through various videos on the WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING METHOD, and I found Whole Brain Writing to be highly effective.
